Lisa Stevens, founder of Narrative Threads, taught herself to sew at age fourteen because the couture clothing that she had fallen in love with in magazines was not readily available in her small Central Illinois town. Later, while getting her undergraduate degree in Theatre, she honed her craft stitching costumes in the theatre department's costume shop and for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. Since 1998, she has developed a solid resume designing costumes for Chicago Theatre, garnering much critical acclaim. Now, her unique ability to translate the heart and soul of a person into beautiful custom-made clothing is available to the general public.
"Beautifully designed by Lisa Stevens ..." - Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times "Most Inspiring Designer of 2002" - Kelly Kleiman, Chicago Reader "What
was I thinking, writing a costume drama set in the mid-18th century
for the low-budget, off-loop Chicago theatre market? Well, Lisa Stevens
knew exactly what I was thinking and realized it with beautiful, historically
accurate costumes that drew critical and audience approval. It was a
privilege to have Lisa Stevens costume-design my play." "Lisa
always over delivers while staying under budget!" - John Beckman,
Managing Director, Visions & Voices Theatre Company
